Hello prospective tuba undergraduates for Fall 2014! I am very excited to announce we will be accepting a full-tuition waived undergraduate tubist for the Fall semester of 2014! Not only that, but this scholarship will potentially also cover room and board costs. Bard College Conservatory is introducing a brand new brass scholarship, called the ASO Brass Scholarship. Bard College partnered with the American Symphony Orchestra to award the most deserving of talented brass students the opportunity to study at a top Conservatory with world class faculty.
Some highlights of this scholarship:
-covers up to full tuition, room, and board
-opportunity to study weekly with Derek Fenstermacher (New Jersey Symphony), as well as receiving lessons with ASO tubist, Kyle Turner
-perform in the annual side-by-side concert with the ASO, which allows the selected tubist to perform along with the world class American Symphony Orchestra
-perform with the Bard Conservatory Orchestra, which tours regularly (European tour scheduled for Summer 2014!)
-highlights of this season's Bard Orchestra include Strauss Till Eulenspiegel, Shostakovich Symphony No. 15, Wagner's Götterdämmerung: Siegfried's Death & Funeral Music, and Copland Symphony No. 3
-orchestral training classes including an all new Brass Class, which combines all the brass students to work through major orchestral works, while being coached by Bard's great faculty
-low brass class, which is run by myself, where we rehearse through major orchestral pieces that are commonly asked in auditions (as well going over strategies for when orchestral auditions call for low brass section playing)
-chamber music opportunities, including a great undergraduate brass quintet
As you can tell, this scholarship is primarily geared toward musicians who see themselves playing in an orchestra some day. I am eager to prepare you for a life of playing in an orchestra, and with this scholarship, one deserving graduating Senior will get the opportunity of a lifetime to study at the stellar Bard College Conservatory!
