Openings and Scholarships at Northern Arizona University

Post by tubalex »

Hello Tubenet,

We have an outstanding and large freshman tuba/euphonium class, well-supported with performance scholarships, however we do have some spots to fill for Fall 2014.

The NAU School of Music has openings for freshmen and transfer students on both euphonium and tuba, and our studio is always a mix of Music-Education and Music-Performance majors. Although NAU occasionally accepts graduate students, our school specifically focuses on undergraduate students and thus studio members always have lessons, studio class, fundamentals class and Tuba/Euphonium ensemble taught by me, never a graduate assistant.

Here is an article on one of our students who is about to graduate: http://nau.edu/News/Articles/2013/10/The-music-within/" target="_blank

NAU is in the beautiful mountain town of Flagstaff, Arizona. This college town is at 7000 feet, so we have perfect summers and lots of world-class skiing and snow play in the winter, and we are 90 minutes from Grand Canyon and 45 minutes from the red rocks of Sedona. By car, we are two hours from Phoenix, four hours from Albuquerque and Las Vegas, eight hours from Los Angeles and twelve hours from San Francisco.

All the information you need to start exploring NAU and the admission/audition process is found at this website:

A perk of auditioning at NAU is simply getting to visit this wonderful place, but if you cannot audition in person I certainly accept recorded auditions.

There are videos demonstrating what it is like to study in the NAU tuba/euphonium studio, as well as demonstrations of my own performances at my YouTube channel:

Please feel free to write to me at Alexander.Lapins@nau.edu" target="_blank with any further questions.
