Graduate Assistantships for this Fall at Univ of Redlands

Post by Scott Sutherland »

The University of Redlands, just outside of Los Angeles, CA, has just announced Graduate Assistantships for Master's students in Tuba or Euphonium for the 2014-2015 academic year. The deadline is right around the corner (April 1), so if you are interested in applying, please let us know right away. We may be able to extend the deadline if we know of your interest beforehand.

Here are a couple of the perks of this position. First is the Pokorny Seminar, which is a wonderful opportunity to work with Gene Pokorny and Mike Roylance, two of the finest orchestral tuba players in the world, along with a trombone faculty that is second to none (Randy Hawes, Detroit Symphony, Tim Higgins, San Francisco Symphony, and Andrew Glendening, University of Redlands and Redlands Symphony). This seminar is five days that will change the way you play and equip you for success in the music world.

Additionally, the position will entitle you to audition for the Redlands Symphony, a local professional orchestra, as a student substitute and extra tuba. The orchestra has a special relationship with the orchestra and students from the university are given the chance to regularly sit in with their teachers to play in a professional setting. In past seasons, my top student played on most of the concerts, either playing second tuba on pieces like Symphonie Fantastique or Also Sprach Zarathustra, or alone on works like Night on Bald Mountain.

Information below.
