Chief Master Sergeant Michael Goetz is not retiring. Since he is our band manager he is no longer considered a Tuba player. The same thing goes for Senior Master Sergeant Bill Granger, he is our band Superintendent. SSgt Jill Corbett has decided to separate from the active duty Air Force and will be joining the California National Guard Band in Southern California while she concentrates on training for a new career in the medical field. We all wish her the best, she will be missed.

Any chance of some clarification on the phrase "technical in nature" that is used to describe what the solo piece should be?

In my experience "technical" can mean a lot of different things. Usually people I have known will take whatever they are not good at and say it's technical. Is the committee expecting something with a lot of notes? Something fast as hell? Double and triple tonguing? Something with a big range? All of the above? What if someone plays a transcription that might be lyrical on the original instrument, but require a lot of technique to play on tuba? Maybe there are no rules other than "different from the rochut."

Anyway, just thought it might be more helpful to discuss this before the tapes are sent in rather than get this information in the audition postmortem. Thanks.

Just a heads up. I spoke to MSgt Miles (at least I believe that was him) and the Air Force is currently not taking any prior service for the rest of the fiscal year which ends in October. He was not sure if after the new fiscal year if they would be able to take prior/current service.

Can we get some light shed on this audition? I sent materials and never heard back for confirmation. I'm also seeing a second listing that closes on September 29th. Is that for the same position or are there two openings? Any info is greatly appreciated.

I sent in materials and got a confirmation email. Also, the Sep. 29th date is for the same job. They just extended the deadline. I emailed them about this and got an email back in regards to the push back. Hope this helps!

Two hires. One for the Band of the Golden West and one for the gig at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio (assuming all went as planned after offers were on the table).

Here's an update to my previous post with correctly spelled names:

There were 8 people there and 5 in the finals.

Lee Jarzembak and Justis Mackenzie are the two walking away with jobs.

Both are (obviously) great musicians and really nice guys! Congrats to them both!
