My chops hurt just reading that list. That is big league stuff. I hope the orchestra will provide the Adams excerpt. I have a sneaking suspicion that there is going to be a lot of scrambling for the Gliere also. Outside of the excerpt in the Brown book, does anyone actually own a copy of the tuba part? Maybe it's on an update from Gordon Cherry. Good luck to all who audition. To show my age, I remember when Paul Kryswicki got the job. Where does time go?

The Gliere part can be ordered directly from Kalmus. Their shipping is quite fast.

The Adams was given by both Philly and Pittsburgh for those invited to audition. The Gliere is readily accesible and would only demand purchasing one movement. Gliere was also given out to semifinalists for the New York Phil so if you know anyone who was there, give them a call.

"Possible Sight Reading."

To make sure that no one is alive after the first round...

Quite the list!

Prelims were yesterday and another round of prelims will be Saturday, March 12. Semis are March 14 and Finals are March 18. From what I heard, three people advanced to the semis yesterday: Kyle Turner, Randy Montgomery and Craig Sutherland.

There was no "little dawgs, big dawgs" round. And it wasn't the 10th and 11th. It was the 10th and 12th. 29 people were invited total. 17 people played yesterday, 12 people to play on Saturday. There were "big dawgs" in the prelims too. Very similar to New York and National in that regard. Excerpts were Meistersinger prelude and solo, Hungarian March, Prokofiev 5, Benvenutto Cellini, Mahler 1, Petrouchka, Ride, and Symphonic Metamorphosis.

I too wish Kyle the best of luck. He always sounded great when he played in the NY Phil.

Archive.org and the wayback machine is very useful for finding old websites that may or may not exist anymore.
