Job Summary:
Responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate and graduate applied tuba and euphonium, low brass methods class, teaching a general education music class, rehearsing and performing with the faculty brass quintet, conducting the Tuba/Euphonium Choir, participating in juries, recruiting activities, and the audition process. Other duties may be assigned depending upon the qualifications of the candidate and the needs of the Department. This is 9 month position that will begin on September 23rd that is renewable on an annual basis. This is a full-time non tenure track position that includes both health benefits and retirement benefits.

The School of Music at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) occasionally has the need to hire One-Year Lecturer to teach in its Bachelors/Masters program in Music. Responsibilities include delivering quality instruction in the program, advising students, and participating in scholarship activities serving the college, university or local community as needed.
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, a Hispanic serving institution, will open its doors in Fall 2015. UTRGV was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 and brings together the assets and resources of UT Pan American and UT Brownsville. The new university will also be home to a School of Medicine that will open in 2016. UTRGV is in the middle of one of the fastest growing areas in the nation, the southern tip of Texas known as the Rio Grande Valley.

Primary responsibilities includes teaching low brass (tuba, euphonium, trombone) applied lessons; secondary music courses; low brass methods; brass ensemble; concert band observe and mentor student teachers; extensive recruitment and program building expected; and other duties assigned as needed by the School of Music Chair/Dean. The successful candidate will be assigned the standard academic teaching load for faculty.

Minimum Qualifications: The qualifications to be considered as a One Year Appointment a masters degree in Music or a related field of study from an accredited institution. A PhD is required to teach graduate level courses.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications: The position requires a demonstrated record of performance/research and scholarship and a successful teaching record. A proven record of recruitment success is expected. Current teacher certification require

Preferred Qualifications: Teaching experience is desirable, as well as ability to use technology to support teaching and learning. Doctorate in Music preferred, demonstrated ability for low brass performance, ability to recruit and retain students

Additional Information UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code ยง51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

Texas A&M University-Kingsville just got an approval for a new $60 million building. Plus, the students and faculty there are fantastic. If you can handle the hot weather, it's a great place to be.

Im not sure of the details yet but if everything's sticks to how it has been said, Ithaca (NY) may be looking for a full time there. So if anyone is interested, be on the lookout for that. Justin Benavidez is only signed on for a year from what I have been hearing

Anyone know what the heck this is about? I read that this is a "new" school that is being formed by combining two existing universities. One of them already has a Tuba/Euph teacher at the Assistant Professor level. Why would they hire a 9-month lecturer for this position when someone is already there?
