Brevard Music Center: High School & College Auditions

Post by Aubrey Foard »

Hi Everyone,

If you are a high school or college-aged student and applying for summer festivals, please do consider auditioning for the Brevard Music Center. The educational side of the festival (the institute) will take place from June 19 - August 2, 2015. There are two programs within the institute: the high school program and the college program. The high school program typically has openings for two tubists and includes weekly performances with the Brevard Wind Ensemble and the Brevard Concert Orchestra in addition to weekly lessons. The college program has an opening for one tubist, who will perform regularly with the all-college Brevard Sinfonia orchestra and the mixed college and faculty Brevard Music Center Orchestra. The college tubist also receives weekly lessons. Last summer, we added a few things to the end of the program, including rep classes, a mock audition, and a studio class. Also, be sure to check out the awesome rep list for all the orchestras!

The tuba program at Brevard is led by the outstanding Charles Villarubia; he will teach the first four weeks of 2015 and I will teach the final three weeks. We have a world-class group of artist faculty on other instruments to help guide you in your study, including David Jackson and Dan Satterwhite on trombone. Please click here for the complete list of BMC faculty.

There is plenty of merit-based and work study scholarship available for the summer program. There are also opportunities for college students to serve as Teaching Assistants or Resident Assistants. Please see the scholarships page for more information.

The application deadline for all instruments is February 23rd, 2015. Please see the application page here. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me via private message or e-mail.

Thanks very much for your interest! Happy practicing. :tuba:

Folks! A reminder of the BMC deadline, now moved to February 25th. For college applicants, you simply need to submit a recording of you performing a solo and three excerpts. For high school applicants, it's two contrasting pieces.

Please let me know if you have any questions - good luck!

Everyone, the BMC deadline for applications has been extended to March 1st.

We are particularly interested in high school applicants. If you are currently in high school and think the Brevard Music Center would be a good fit for you, please send us an audition! It could be any etude or solo, as long as the works are of contrasting styles.

We would also love to get more high school tenor and bass trombone applicants. If you have a student or friend that's interested, please consider passing the word onto them.

As always, please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.
