I saw on Facebook something like 65?ZMan wrote:How many auditioned? How many advanced?
I haven't investigated, but happen to see on my newsfeed that John Hadden and Matthew Gray advanced to the semis.

Re: The Presidents Own
There were a total of 73 musicians who showed up for the audition. The committee originally advanced 10 to the semi-final round, but 2 of them were dismissed due to medical conditions, so it was narrowed down to 8.
Will Samson won the audition.

I like that they chose a silly person.
From one of his groups sites: "...Will is a very accomplished musician but his silliness is legendary!"
Any insights into the 130+ record breaking number of applicants in 2013 vs. 70ish this time? Is the drought of national auditions thinning the herd?

I also think reasons like "health" and "not wanting to join the military" exist for a lot of people as well.

A huge congrats to Will! Great guy, and great player!
For all you young guns out there, Will is a great example of perseverance. His willingness and ability to keep at it is inspiring and you all should get a lesson with him to hear his story.
It'll be fun to catch up during trips to DC.
