Assistantships at Washington State University

Greetings to all you tuba and euphonium players! I am pleased to announce that Washington State University anticipates some teaching assistantships available for Fall 2016. Specifically, there will be a need for a marching band TA to assist with all athletic bands, and we will also need TAs for general education courses, music major courses, some studio teaching, and possibly recording studio/stage management.
Washington State University is a large research university located in Pullman, WA, and it is a member of the Pac 12 athletic conference. The tuba-euphonium studio is thriving. At an average of 12-13 players, the studio contains first-year students all the way to graduate students. The studio culture here is positive, encouraging, and supports a friendly kind of competition. In 2013, the studio helped host the 2013 NW Regional Tuba-Euphonium Conference, and they performed at the 2015 NW Regional Tuba-Euphonium Conference in Boise, ID. Ensembles for tuba and euphonium players include the Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, athletic bands, Brass Ensemble, Tuba Choir, and quartets/quintets. Pullman is located in the Palouse region of the Northwest, and the region supports the arts, culture, is family-friendly, and boasts a mild climate low in humidity.
The assistantships at Washington State University are hefty monetary awards. They come with a full tuition waiver, a yearly stipend of $12,370.50 in direct salary, as well as full medical and dental insurance coverage. The earlier you apply, the better. An application includes the online WSU graduate school application and fee, a statement of purpose, letters of recommendation, transcripts, and an audition for the brass faculty. Recorded auditions will be accepted if a trip to Washington becomes impossible.
