Euphonium Vacancy - West Point Band
Posted: Wed Sep 30, 2015 2:36 pm
Due to the impending departure of Sergeant First Class Jason Ham, the West Point Band announces an immediate vacancy for Euphonium. Here are the important dates:
Packets must be RECEIVED BY (not postmarked): December 2nd, 2015
Final Round will be: February 8th, 2016.

Based off the recorded round and resumes, 6+ qualified candidates will be inivted to audition live at West Point for the final round at the government's expense.
You'll notcie on the flyer it mentions proficiency on trombone in the marching band as a requirement in the final round. To clarify: if you are offered the job, the expectation of performing trombone in the marching band would be rather limited. It is only added as a contingency for extenuating circumstances. The West Point Band is somewhat smaller than other premeir military bands and to account for occasional absenses, we must ask members of the band to double where need be. Hence the wording "basic proficiency." As such, you will be expected to perform a few short basic march excerpts on trombone if you are invited to the final round. Nothing too crazy.
As for SFC Ham: he has decided to enter into full time ministry as a pastor in nearby Warwick, NY. I'd like to publicly thank him personally for everything he's done for me and the West Point Band. We wish him nothing but the best in this new adventure for him and his family. He will be greatly missed but at least he's sticking around close by.
Any questions regarding the audition should be directed to myself at philip.broome@usma.edu" target="_blank
Thanks everyone and good luck! West Point is incredible place to work with great musicians and even better people. I hope you consider sending in a tape!
My best,
-Phil
