The Glenn Gould School of Music of the Royal Conservatory of Canada is pleased to announce auditions for tuba, with studies beginning in September 2016. Auditions will be held in February 2016 and are open to serious performance students of both undergraduate and graduate level.
The Glenn Gould School is a professional music performance training program limited to instrumental players comprising one symphony orchestra, so only one tuba position is available. Playing responsibilities include the RCM Orchestra, the contemporary music ensemble, brass quintet, low brass and full brass orchestral repertory classes, regular mock auditions, and both solo recital and orchestral examination requirements.
In addition to their studies with myself and other RCM faculty, students are offered regular masterclasses with renowned international brass artists. Recent tuba artists to visit have been Chris Olka, David Kirk, Bob Tucci, Sam Pilafian and Alan Baer. Other recent visiting brass artists have included: Joe Alessi, James Markey, Jörgen Van Rijen, Tom Hooten and Bill Vermulen. This year's tuba masterclass will feature principal tuba of the Pittsburgh Symphony, Craig Knox on December 3 and 4, 2015.
The Royal Conservatory of Canada is located in downtown Toronto, Canada in the state of the art Telus Centre for Performance and Learning, including the beautiful Koerner Concert Hall.
