I'm surprised that list doesn't include some of the "standards" that involve two tubas:
Zarathustra
Alpine Symphony
Rite of Spring
Symphonie Fantastique

Maybe the principal tubist would like to take a day off now and then.

Hey zeus, the reason there is an audition is because acording to our contract every three years there must be an audition for auxillary (sub) list. This way our personnel manager has an up-to-date list for each instrument. In this particular orchestra each musician is given one week paid vacation and x number of personal days. In my absence it is very nice to have someone that plays well, thus auditions are in order to qualify a sub/auxillary.

Nothing at all odd about that.
Good to see you Daryl.
