Glenn Gould School Tuba Opening

After holding live auditions in February, our accepted tuba candidate at the Glenn Gould School has made other plans, leaving us with an opening again. We are looking for an advanced tuba student at a graduate or undergraduate level. In light of the late date, we will be holding this second round of auditions through video or audio submission, as another live audition will be impossible to facilitate at this time.

The Glenn Gould School is based out of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, and is among the finest music schools in Canada. The orchestral training program is limited to one brass section, so the tuba student has exclusivity to perform in every ensemble. In addition, they receive regular lessons, low brass studio class, mock auditions, chamber music, and participate in regular residencies with international brass artists. Recent visiting brass artists have included David Kirk, Alan Baer, Chris Olka, Craig Knox, Barbara Butler, Thomas Hooten and William VerMeulen.

Toronto is a vibrant and culturally rich city with a world class symphony orchestra, opera and ballet companies, and a professional brass band. The Royal Conservatory is a state of the art facility with fantastic practice and performing facilities and resources.

The Glenn Gould School tuba student is generally provided with full tuition funding, which combined with our currently low Canadian dollar makes it a very inexpensive alternative to other high level music schools in both Canada and the US. I’ve attached links below with information about the school, myself, and the other faculty members.

Anyone interested in this opportunity, or wanting more information should contact me directly at sasha.johnson@mcgill.ca" target="_blank or private message me through this board.

Thanks,
Sasha Johnson

I've been honored to be invited for a recital and masterclass here. The school facilities, students, and faculty are all World-Class! Toronto is a beautiful city and the musical environment here is really inspiring. Any student would be lucky to have the chance to study with Sasha. It's clear how much he invests in creating a quality learning experience. Anyone looking for a school would be hard pressed to find a better situation.

Another +1 for Sasha and the GGS:

Not only is he a phenomenal player and pedagogue, but he's also a great guy who will push you to your limits. Free schooling in a place like Toronto is a great deal, and to have Sasha as a teacher sweetens the deal even more.

Another plug for Sasha and the GGS.

I spent 2 years with Sasha and he is the real deal. I developed more as a player with him than any other time during my studies elsewhere. The other faculty are top notch and going to see the Toronto Symphony Orchestra is a lesson all on it's own.
