Graduate Assistantship at The University of Idaho

Post by mshipes »

Hi everyone!

I would like to announce an opening in the tuba/euphonium studio at the University of Idaho for a graduate assistant. We also have openings for undergraduate tuba and euphonium students. This is a great opportunity to gain a lot of experience through teaching and performing in various areas within the school of music. Please PM or e-mail/call me (info below) if you have any questions!

Lionel Hampton School of Music
University of Idaho
Moscow, Idaho

Announces: Graduate Assistantship in Tuba or Euphonium (Master of Music only)

Auditions: By appointment, priority deadline is February 1, 2017.

Stipend: A full graduate assistantship in the school of music requires twenty hours of service per week and provides in-state graduate student fee status and an annual stipend of approximately $9700. Assistantships may be renewed for one additional year of study.

Duties: Duties may include the following, depending on department needs and qualifications: individual instruction of tuba and euphonium majors and minors, coaching tuba/euphonium ensemble, other duties as needed by the department.

Performing Ensembles: Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble, Orchestra

The Lionel Hampton School of Music, so designated in 1987 in honor of the eminent American jazz musician, is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music. Established as a department in 1893, it was elevated to school status in 1969.
The courses and curricula in music seek to prepare elementary, secondary, and college teachers of music; to train professional musicians; to enrich the cultural environment for students and provide liberal-arts instruction; and to engage in research in music performance and teaching for the general benefit of the public and the discipline of music.
Students in this school learn by performing, listening, analyzing, and creating music. Emphasis is on the understanding of musical styles and techniques of all eras, including contemporary music. Musical studies balance the aesthetic and the practical, with ample opportunity for exploration and self-reliance.

Please contact Dr. Matthew Shipes for an audition appointment or with further questions: mshipes@uidaho.edu" target="_blank, 208-885-0539. Bellevue High School in Bellevue, WA - Feb. 4

Finally, our on-campus audition day is Feb. 11 in Moscow, ID, and will feature a full day of recitals, Q&A meetings, a campus-tour, and various informational sessions (more info here: http://www.uidaho.edu/class/music/futur ... dition-day" target="_blank).

There are openings in the Tuba-Euphonium Studio for undergraduates as well as potentially the graduate assistantship mentioned above. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you are at all interested or have any questions!
