Anyone know what the number invited was? After the resume and tape filtering?

This audition is like the anti-Cincinnati. For that audition, everyone who went just put it on their Facebook that they were going, and afterwards they posted how they did. I've talked with a few people who are auditioning at Seattle, but it's like a state secret. Which is fine too.

Seattle isn't an AFM orchestra. I imagine it is in the interest of AFM members not to advertise. I promise there will be plenty of amazing musicians at the audition. Last time I went on stage right after Alan Baer in the prelims. Guess which of us advanced? (Not me.) Needless to say, if you want this gig be prepared to play better than the best.

Good luck to all the candidates this week! It's an incredible job and even more beautiful place to live. The hall is World-Class.

Regarding the Union status of the orchestra, it's not AFM but it IS union. The union, IGSOBM, is internationally recognized and we've had many AFM musicians play in Seattle over the 17+ years I was there. It's never been an impediment to hiring them to play extra or for full-time employment. The reluctance of people to post wether or not they are attending the audition probably has more to do with stressful nature of the serious business at hand.

Rest assured that the orchestra will hold the candidates to the highest standards in the audition process. It's going to be a real battle. Glad I'm not taking it!!!!

Again, best of luck to you all!

Congratulations to John DiCesare, winner of the Seattle Symphony tuba audition! Couldn't have happened to a nicer or more hard-working guy.

Congratulations to him! Anyone know who else was in that finals pool? Just out of curiousity?

I was across town playing a ballet during this audition, but if I heard correctly, the other finalist was Joe LeFevre.
