Columbus State University-Artist Diploma Program

Postby musica5341 » Wed Jul 05, 2017 10:30 am

The Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University (https://music.columbusstate.edu/index.php" target="_blank) is proud to be one of the leading and fastest-growing university-level music programs in the southeast, with a world-class facility and accomplished faculty. The Schwob School has only 250 students and our student-faculty ratio is just 9 to 1. Students enrolled in music, art and theater live in downtown Columbus at the beautiful Riverpark campus - visit the webpage for more information on our dorms and truly unique campus environment.

Since 2001 the Schwob School has been housed in the impressive RiverCenter for the Arts, designed to provide students with everything needed to study, rehearse, and perform music. This beautiful building features a 2,000-seat concert hall, a 400-seat recital hall, a 175-seat black box theater, four acoustically isolated large ensemble rooms, and a plethora of pleasant, acoustically isolated practice rooms.

If you have any tuba students or know any tuba students who have completed their master's degree and are still looking for opportunities this 2017-2018 academic year, there may be financial aid available to help their studies in the artist diploma program (https://music.columbusstate.edu/admissi ... ionreq.php" target="_blank) at the Schwob School of Music. Please have them contact Dr. Jamie Nix at the following if interested:

Jamie L. Nix, D.M.A.

Professor of Conducting

Artist Diploma Audition Requirements
Brass
The audition for the Artist Diploma and the Graduate Assistantship requires approximately 20 to 25 minutes of playing, to include solo literature of the student's choice, plus 3-5 standard orchestral excerpts. Piano accompaniment is encouraged, but not required, and will not be provided.

Tuba players should expect to showcase a balance between bass-tuba and contrabass-tuba solos and excerpts.

I am looking forward to serving as the new tuba-euphonium professor this fall at CSU. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions; have a great week!

Sincerely,
Bernard H. Flythe

I encourage all students to look seriously at CSU. A world class wind ensemble and conductor in Jamie Nix, a world class teacher in Bernard Flythe, and possibly the best recital hall in the Southeastern U.S. Incredible atmosphere as well.
