2 Tuba openings: The Colburn School Conservatory of Music

There will openings for two tuba students at The Colburn School Conservatory of Music for the fall 2019 semester.

Opened in 2003, the Colburn Conservatory of Music has become one of the nation’s leading conservatories for highly talented college-age students pursuing the most rigorous classical instrumental music performance training.

The Conservatory provides full financial scholarships, including tuition, room and board for all students. The Colburn School Conservatory of Music offers five programs of study: Bachelor of Music in Performance degree, Performance Diploma, Artist’s Diploma, Professional Studies Certificate and Masters of Music in Performance. These programs offer full support (tuition, room and board) to highly talented students pursuing the highest levels of classical music performance training.

Besides classes and private lessons students will share responsibilities performing in the Colburn Orchestra, participating in weekly low brass class, brass ensemble and at least two mock auditions per year. Colburn hosts masterclasses and residencies by renown brass performing artists and one side by side reading session with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Brass section each year.

Reminder: all application materials including the pre-screening video are due NO LATER THAN December 1, 2018.

A few other details about the Colburn School to consider:

I just attended the Colburn Orchestra Gala Concert at Walt Disney Concert Hall last night and the orchestra played an exiting rendition of Tchaikovsky Symphony #4 under the baton of Valery Gergiev

Other notable conductors working with the Colburn Conservatory Orchestra this year include:
Stéphane Denève
Esa-Pekka Salonen (also the new chair of the Conducting department)
Xian Zhang

In the past years they have also featured conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel, Michael Tilson Thomas, Sir Nevil Mariner, Edo de Waart and major soloists including Emanuel Ax, Jean-Yves Thibaudet etc...

Really great experiences for an aspiring orchestra musician.

I've been working on the prescreening music, and I noticed, for Ride and March, the excerpt locations aren't listed. Are the desired excerpts the standard ones? Sorry if I'm not making too much sense!

Hungarian March rehearsal #4 to two after rehearsal #5
Ride pickup to rehearsal 11 to 4 after rehearsal 12

this is my speculation, it's just the standard excerpt from both pieces
