Vancouver Symphony Orchestral Institute

Dear Students and Teachers,
The 2019 Vancouver Symphony Orchestral Institute will be presented from June 24th to July 3rd on the exquisite Pacific Ocean-front campus of the University of British Columbia. The VSOI offers young musicians an experience and education like no other. Students are immersed in a collaborative musical environment, mentored by musicians of the Grammy and Juno Award-winning VSO and internationally acclaimed music director, Maestro Otto Tausk. At the VSOI, students participate in the Institute Orchestra, chamber music, masterclasses, and a variety of exceptional performance opportunities. Playing and learning in the breathtaking, arts-rich surroundings of the city of Vancouver, your time at the VSOI will be an unforgettable musical experience close to nature, a world-class orchestra, and outstanding young musicians from around the globe.
This year, the Institute Orchestra led by Maestro Tausk will perform Mussorgsky (Orch. Ravel)- Pictures at an Exhibition, Mussorgsky- Night on Bald Mountain, Shostakovich- Symphony No. 5, and Prokofiev-The Love for Three Oranges-March. We are currently accepting applications from advanced students, ages 15-25.
The VSO Institute features:
· Participation in the Institute Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Otto Tausk
· A faculty comprised of Vancouver Symphony Orchestra musicians
· A comprehensive chamber music program
· A concerto competition; grand prize winner will perform with the VSO
· Masterclasses, seminars, faculty recitals, student recitals
· World class rehearsal and performance facilities including the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at UBC
· Attendance at rehearsals and performances of the VSO
· Talented young musicians from around the globe
VSOI students will have an option to apply for the UBC Chamber Orchestra Festival, featuring an elite, intimate chamber orchestra experience, opportunities for concerto performances, and intensive study for student conductors. Audition deadline: March 3.
