Please spread the word; leading up to the Navy fleet bands audition in late January I’m hosting a mock audition at UT on Saturday, January 12. This will start late morning and finish early afternoon.

Everyone will play every round, and we will get through the entire list plus sight-reading. The audition will be in the UT recital hall, with a group warm-up room across the hall and individual practice rooms one floor down.

A tuba player formerly of the US Navy fleet bands program who helped make the current audition rep list and I will provide comments.

In my experience this is more about going through the process than getting comments, even though comments are very useful. It's been a long time since I was on the audition circuit, but I do recall that one of the major hurdles of the process is the weirdness of traveling somewhere, performing in an unfamiliar environment and still having to do your best the first time, not on a do-over. I hope this can help some people have their "I wish I'd practiced for that element" happen before the big day, not on the big day.

To reserve a spot email me at alapins at utk dot edu
