Who played tuba in that band? We just got a song in Jazz Band with Jazz Tuba, and in the recording, the tuba is very much in the song...

Depends on when the song was recorded. Howard Johnson was the original tubist for the Mingus Big Band (true?), but others came after him.

And since I think Earl McIntyre, as I lent a tuba to him at the Wigan Jazz Festival 3 or 4 years ago.

huh...I have a recording of Opus 4 from them, and I'm not really sure who it was...Whoever it was, was not very loud

and you can almost not hear him (I don't think my band director realized the tuba was in the song until he received the score)
