"Decasia"--Grand Symphony of Decay

Post by Steve Marcus »

[quote]This month Decasia, a multimedia symphony and film experience will make its Manhattan debut— right on the Lower East Side...Filmmaker Bill Morrison of Ridge Theater...came across a cash of deteriorated nitrate film and showed it to Michael Gordon, who composed a symphony inspired by it, which Morrison in turn cut the movie to match...The film is now available on DVD, but Decasia Live is a rare and extraordinary event. This January, 55 musicians will fill three tiers of Angel Orensanz Center for the Arts, more than twenty screens will hang on all four sides of the audience, and light and sound and swirls and splotches and decaying images and unique music will fill the cavernous room...The live experience promises to be unmatched. “Two tubas…two contrabassoons,â€

Just saw this post...

I did get called for that gig, but had to turn it down as I could not make all the rehearsals they were scheduling -- it would have required me to cancel a pile of other gigs. Such is life...!

I think the project was headed up by a bunch of folks from the Manhattan School of Music, so it may have ended up being some cats from that loop.

peace

Oops... misread... this durn thing wont let me edit!

I got called for the original premeire, which was a year ago or so. I am guessing that for this performance they are using the players who did the first show.
