I enjoyed my annual viewing of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation yesterday.

Does anyone happen to know off the top of their head who played the polka-style (Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer) tuba solo (with accordion) while Cousin Eddie is emptying his RV . . . waste . . . into the storm drain?

I've been wondering that myself - my family watches that every year at Christmas, and it's been bugging me that I don't know.

A couple of year ago we invested in a family copy of the DVD - and to spice things up we watched it in Spanish - it actually got a little funnier

Yes, it was Tommy. He played on National Lampoon's Vacation, Christmas Vacation and European Vacation. That's not to say there weren't other tuba players on these dates in addition to Tommy, but at the very least it was him.

I had to resurrect this...

I was watching this yesterday on my friend's 150" projection in our "Man Cave" and said "The guy that plays that solo is named Tommy Johnson." My friends proceded to tell me that I was bull of fecal matter and "just because you play the tuba doesn't mean that you know which tuba player is playing based on their sound."

I invited them to google "who played tuba on christmas vacation rudolph" and bet each one $5 that I was right. Low and behold, this thread was the last thing on the results. I won $20.
