There are a few "comical" style tuba solos in the John Williams score to Superman:The Movie. The movie was made in 1978 i believe and it was listed that the London Philharmonic played the soundtrack.
Who was the tuba player? Great sound!

If I remember correctly, John Williams used the London Symphony Orchestra for that gig like he used them for the Star Wars movies.
