The "Chief"I'm drawing a blank, What was his real name, and when was he playing. Was he an artist for a time for Conn? And when?

Re: The "Chief"Perhaps you're thinking of John Kuhn, who played for the Sousa band among others (check Wiki, etc.).
There were a very limited number of ornately engraved raincatchers built by Holton in the 1930's with an image of a Native American wearing feathers and surrounded by stars and stripes with the designation "The Chief" clearly appearing on the bell. Don Harry owns one of these; a rather recluse band director in Chicago owns another one.
Re: The "Chief"
He also had the "Conn-Chief" mouthpiece named for him. Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
Re: The "Chief"
...after which the "Stofer Chief" mouthpiece was designed.
Re: The "Chief"
Which, sadly (at least the last time I checked) is no longer available. ![]()
Re: The "Chief"Yes, That's the name, John Kuhn, He also shows up occasionally on the home page postage stamp, correct.
