Norm Pearson could probably answer this better than I. But I will start this and maybe he will finish it...

The Twilight Zone (Rod Serling) was done using the facilities of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in Culver City, California. For its first season, it used the contract studio orchestra at MGM, so whoever was the MGM tubist was probably the soloist you heard, assuming it was during the series' first season.
