anyone know who was playing? just curious since they are using someone different all the time and i haven't seen the player before

they played the william tell overture, john adams violin concerto, and shostakovich 15

Steve told me he was playing December and January with the Philadelphia Orchestra so I guess it was him.

Yea, i was under the impression that shosti 15 was a bit more brassy. I was very surprised when it didn't even call for a full brass section; 2 trumpets, 4 horns, 3 bones, and tuba. The William Tell Overture kicked butt! And i'm not a real fan of the John Adams' minimalist style, but the soloist was amazing! Great concert.

Since when wasn't that a full brass section?

I was thinkin that normally there would be a couple more trumpets. But still, when I was told before going that it called for 6 trumpets, 8 horns, 4 bones, and 2 tubas (something like that) and you come in and there is a brass section the before mentioned, it's a little surprising. So I meant not full compared to what I heard from other people.

Symphony #4 calls for 2 tubas. I think 4 trumpets, 8 horns and a 3 trombones as well. I might be mistaken but I think thats the only one that calls for 2 tubas.

Yup, the 4th is the only one that calls for those forces.
