Mahler 7

Post by Thomas Maurice Booth »

I just got the SFSO w/ MTT recording of Mahler 7. In my opinion it is one of the best recordings I have ever heard of the symphony. Jeff played wonderfully as did the euphonium player. Who was that? After purchasing this cd, I am planning on getting their whole collection of Mahler Symphony recordings.

The tenor tuba part in the opening is played by Mark Lawrence on a very old Besson that one of his students found in a pawn shop. I had the fortune of hearing SFSO play Mahler 7 in Carnegie the week after they recorded it. I think it's the best I've ever heard Jeff Anderson play. I left the concert inspired.

I will second that! The Barenboim/Staatskapelle Berlin recording of Mahler 7 has become my favourite.
