Who played in the movie "Grumpy Old Men"?

I was watching the movie, "Grumpy Old Men" yesterday, and the ending has a polka-ish ending. If it was a more modern movie, I'd guess that eiter Jim Self or Tommy Johnson played for it, but it's an older movie, so I don't know...thought maybe someone else knew...

More modern? The movie only came out in 1993! Jeez, I didn't know that the early 90's were old already!

Both TJ and JS have (I believe) been playing in studio gigs for some time now and if pressed for an answer, I would say it were one of the two.

The 90s? Old? Dang...

a. I wasn't sure how old the thing was, and
b. I wasn't sure how long Johnson and Self have been playing for Hollywood.

Well, forever goes back to at least 1976. I was at Long Beach State that fall and getting lessons from Jim Self at that time. He and Tommy were the lead guys in the studios then. I remember Jim telling me about the tuba ensemble used for Close Encounters of the Third Kind. If I remeber correctly he said it was made up of himself, Tommy, Roger Bobo and the euphonium player that I just can't remember his name. Jim said they were the "L.A. Tuba Quartet."

I believe the three tuba players on Close Encounters were Tommy Johnson, Jim Self and the late Ray Segal. Ray doubled on String Bass/Tuba in the studios for many years. He passed away seven or eight years ago.
