I remember Tommy Johnson talking about these sessions, and I think Jim Self and Gene Pokorny, who was playing with the LA Phil at the time, both played as well.

I think I remember Tommy saying that Gene played his Yorkbrunner at the session, and it sounded great.

As far as orchestration, I bet it was a large band. Most likely 3-5 trumpets, 8 horns, 4-6 trombones, and 3-6 tubas.

Bill is one of my all time favorite bass trombone players! I feel like a better player when I sit next to him. BIG EARS

He also plays lead tenor trombone, euphonium and sounds great on the tuba.
