The title says it all; specifically, Symphony no. 5.

Patrick Harrild. He's as good as you will find anywhere on earth. Check out his recording of the Vaughan Williams Tuba Concerto. Its one of the best

Some really amazing playing by one of the world's best orchestras! If you ever get a chance to hear them live (at the Barbican)....DO IT! But their series of LSO Live cd's are some of my favorites! Patrick Harrild's playing is tops!
I also recently found an older SLSO/Slatkin recording of Prokofiev 5 with Gene Pokorny playing on his 4/4 Hirsbrunner.....man, what a sound!!!!

I was turned onto Gergiev by his Scythian Suite/Nevsky recording with Kirov a couple years ago, and got this box-set recently.
Though I haven't digested it enough to think about the tubas being used, the 5th and 6th symphonies sound really great.

The Scythian/Nevsky recording is the best that exists in my opinion. It buries all other recordings of the piece. Including the "legendary" Chicago recording.
