What was the low brass lineup for this?
Not sure on the whole low brass section, but on tuba, I'd have to guess Tommy Johnson. I can't *swear* to this, but based on a little research (including a list of "favorite movie scores" on Jim Self's website that does NOT include Predator), this is my best guess. Phil Teele was often contracted with Tommy on bass trombone, so that might be another name to add to the list.

Of course, Jim might've done Predator and didn't think enough of it to include it on his "favorites" list, but I'm just talking out my a$$ at this point.

As per usual.

For some reason I think I remember Tommy talking about that session in a lesson, as I knew Kevin Peter Hall, who played the creature and tragically died in the early 90's. We may have talked about that, but my memory is a bit hazy, so I can't be sure.

Then again, with Alan Sylvestri, Tommy would be a good bet.

It's been since confirmed that a) it wasn't Jim, and b) Tommy was Alan Silvestri's first-call tuba player. So yeah, it was most likely Tommy.

Yes, very sad about Kevin Peter Hall. He seemed like a really sweet guy...
