misc. questions about equipment

Post by Chris »

Hello all,

I need to know what horns were played on the following recordings.

Charles Dutoit - Montreal - Prokofiev 5 - Wean
Christoph Eschenbach - Houston - Christopher Rouse Flute Concerto - Kirk
Zubin Mehta - New York - 'Highlights' from the Ring - Deck
Mehta - LA - The Planets - Bobo and Johnson?? I don't know if that is right please correct me if I'm wrong.

Reiner - Wagner - Jacobs -- was he playing the york?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Ellis Wean played a 5/4 Rudy Meinl on most all of his Montreal recordings.

Deck was playing his 6/4 Meinl-Weston.

For the L.A. Planets recording, Bobo was playing a Mirafone 186 and Johnson was playing a Mirafone 185.

No idea on what Kirk was playing.

I'm 95% sure on all of those.

Kirk played either one of his Alexanders or his Nirschl 6/4, I would guess.

The Mehta NY recording predates the 2165. Warren probably is playing the (in)famous Frankentuba.

Pretty sure that's not right. Warren got his 2165 in 1991, and the "Highlights" recordings were originally from the early 80's.

I'd bet it was the FrankenConn.

And, Dave is correct....it was a 184 and 185 between Bobo and TJ.

I stand corrected. Thank you, gentlemen!

Stupid 5% uncertainty.....:P

Their current tubist, Dennis Miller, plays a Hirsbrunner 5/4.
