The copy I have of this is a Vox Box cheapy. It is copyrighted 1990 and is recorded in analog - difinatly not the standard in the 1990s. Any explanation?

I know that there is a contingent, myself being one of them, that thinks orchestrals sound better recorded on analog tape. Maybe that was their thought?

As for the tubist(s) on this recording, depending on when it was recorded, it could be David Fedderley, Gene Pokorny, Mike Sanders, or Rex Martin. Ivan the Terrible has 2 tuba parts, so there would be two players on that.

Seriously. Gene left to be the CSO full time tubist starting in the 89-90 season. Rex played for one full year, not sure when that was, could have been that same season. My 1992 date for the recording is obviously wrong, got that from Amazon.com listing. Mike was definitely one of the tubists, if there were more than one. Rex told me that Perantoni played second tuba on some concerts the season that he was in St. Louis, so here is a possible fifth player.
