Arnold Jacobs Playing the Vaughn Williams

This ones for those of you who are fimiliar with the recording Arnold Jacobs did in his basement of him playing the Vaughn Williams suite, mvt 1. Does anyone know what he's using? either a big BBb/CC or a small F/Eb?

Boosey or Besson 4 Valve Compensating F.

Don't know - depends on when it was recorded.

He was probably practicing this for a performance. In the 60's he did it on a CC, in the 70's on the Besson F.

Jake was notorious for playing any tuba for anything. If you had a tuba you wanted tested, he might have used it for such a recording.

? I'm not sure I understand. Especially the use of "notorious."

I would bet that Jake played the York CC for 99% of the performances in his tenure in the CSO and with the CSO quintet. Outside of that, I know he used a 6 valve Vienese F tuba (forced into it by Reiner), a Besson F, a B&S Symphonie F and very little else in the orchestra. There's been a more complete discussion of this elsewhere on Tubenet.

He certainly had possession of a number of different tubas but I think it is misleading to imply that he'd pick up just any old tuba and record something on it for you.
