Found some great vids on Youtube this morning from a TV show in 1962 called the Jazz Scene USA. The show was hosted by Oscar Brown Jr. and was very hip. Great camera angles and I am sure was very progressive for its time.
This particular episode featured the Stan Kenton Orchestra. One of the vids was Waltz of the Prophets and it ended with a little tuba lick and the camera closed right in on the tuba player and eventually faded out on the bell, cool shot.
Name that tuba player
What a great show.

I have been away for a couple of weeks due to some surgeries I am having (nothing serious, or I'd be out of Vietnam!)
If you would, PLEASE post a link for this YouTube video, I could tell you.
Thanks.

Bob, if you haven't checked it out yet, dig the '62 version of Malaguena...

Part of the gig. I had some friends who played in Buddy Rich's band, and if you didn't stop EVERYTHING and look directly at Mr. Rich while he was playing a solo, you were out on your @$$...Super Smooth wrote:Man, were those cats glued to the charts!
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

Nothing like responding to a 5 year old thread.I found this going thru the site. The Tuba player name is Dave Wheeler also Bass Trombone. The other Bass Trombone player is Jim Amlotte.

I never saw this footage, but Jay MacAllister played with Kenton for a while.

Most of the links on this thread have expired, but the Stan Kenton-Malaguena is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TN9sp6ApX4o
(one of my favorite versions, and/or Maynard's even if they are overdone by some D&BC.) There might be other clips from the episode.
BTW, I also like The Tubes version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJx9g7S48AQ - no tuba content. I saw them on that 1974 tour in San Jose - what a show!
