It is Will Lee, the Late Show/Late Night bass player, faking it (i.e., not really playing.)

It was the bass player in Letterman's band. At the end of the clip in the corner of the screen, he is shown with a bass to play the out cue music and his tuba is standing on the bell. Whoever it was had some decent tuba chops. I would love to have that horn. Looks pretty cool, even if he is faking?
