Saint Louis Symphony, 1989, Shostakovich's 8th

Post by tubafatness »

Does anyone know who the low brass players were in the 1989 recording of Shostakovich's 8th symphony with the Saint Louis Symphony and Leonard Slatkin? Whoever they were, they sound great.

According to "Orchestral Recordings for Low Brass Players." It was, Gene Pokorny on tuba. Melvin Jernigan on bass trombone. Thats all it lists in the review, but I think the Principal trombone would have been Roger Oyster. I'm not sure about the second trombonist. I would love to hear this recording, i've been looking for it for awhile, but I haven't got around to ordering it. Maybe its about time that I do.....

Gene was with the SLSO then. He went to Chicago shortly afterwards.
