I don't know who performed it, but the Sensemaya ont he Sin City soundtrack is my favorite.

The video of the Venezuela Youth Symphony on Youtube is also really sweet, especially for a youth group.

That would be Eric Fritz playing on La Noche de los Mayas, Suite for Orchestra. Graduate of USC and Juilliard.

It appears that the aforementioned recording of La Noche de los Mayas was likely done in 1980, the same one as this RCA recording:

I believe Eric Fritz joined the Orquesta Sinfonica Xalapa in 1992. I don't recall who the tubist was in 1980. Luis Herrera de la Fuente left the orchestra in 1984.

It also appears that the recording of Sensemaya from the two previously mentioned discs is that utilized in the Sin City soundtrack:

Morris is right that I entered the OSX in 1992 and did not play on the mentioned Revueltas recording. The tuba player is Tom Cratchmer (sp?) who played in the OSX for approx 10 years (late 70s to late 80s). I don´t know Tom but have always heard good things about him and I think he lives in Florida. There are 2 newer recordings of the OSX with our former music director Carlos Miguel Prieto. http://www.urtextonline.com/catalog/ind ... h=31_82_93" target="_blank" target="_blank The 1st (2004) has Senseless Mayans and a few other goodies and I also didn´t play on this recording either because I was on sabbatical. The tuba player is David Griffiths. The 2nd (2005) recording has Noche de las Mayans and I did play on this one. It´s quite sad that the recording quality on both of these recordings is not good. There is also a live recording of the OSX in the Concertgebouw from 2004. That´s it!! E

That's right, Tom Kracmer. He's listed as the tubist with the Southwest Florida Symphony (Google search).

Is your OSX recording from the Concertgebouw available on CD or download? I'd love to hear it.

Good to see you googled Tom. The live recording in the Concertgebouw I think is only sold through the office or at concerts as a promo CD. It´s pretty good. I´ll see if I can get you one someday. In August I will celebrate my 16th anniversary in the orchestra. Only 14 more to retirement!!
