Howdy everyone,
Does anybody know who was the tuba player for the 1980 recording of the Ring cycle under Boulez? Thanks!

If memory serves me correct, I believe that was Walter Hilgers first year at Bayreuth.
Oddly enough from what I understand talking to colleagues in the EU, until recently playing at the Festspeilhaus was not one of the most sought after gigs. I seem to remember them saying the playing conditions were not the best and it didn't pay as well as some of us would think. A few peoples opinions, just passing them along. YMMV.
I know this off track, but the BEST recording to come out of Bayreuth, IMHO, is a 1960 performance of "Parsifal" with Knappersbusch conducting. Stupendous playing and singing.

Thank you very much! I recently bought this recording and I love its raw power. I will most definitely check out the "Parsifal" recording. Thanks Again!!

Walter Hilgers played in Die Walkure, and Siegfried on this recording. I believe Hans Gelhar Played the other 2 operas.
