Siegfried Karajan

Post by jsswadley »

Who is playing on Herbert von Karajan's Berlin Phil Siegfried? The sound is a little bit tremulous, but great breath control. Also, any idea where it was done? Regards, John

I'm not sure who the player is, but from what I can gather it was recorded in Berlin. From the info on the LP Box that I have of it. My favorite is the one with Boulez from 1981 in Bayreuth. Walter Hilgers on tuba. Its unreal.

If memory serves me correctly, that would have been Paul Humpfl (sic) who retired from the BPO a couple of years back.. One of the more overlooked players because DG never miked him very well.
