This great recording was done in two sessions,
Dec., 1957 and Jan., 1958.
Bill Stanley played tuba on one of the sessions.
Who played on the other one?

Okay, "Toad" I don't have these recordings, but I do have some by the same group, done close in time, and those, on one session, have . . . Bill Bell! (right?)

Wow, so many choices. Could have been any of the following:

1. Harvey- He was in his hey-day in the 50's and 60's in NYC.
2. Ray Draper
3. Joe Novotny- not as strange as it sounds. He did alot of studio stuff before he got the Phil job in 1961.
4. Herb Weksehlblatt- Another guy who did alot of playing in the studios before he got the Met gig.
5. Joe Tarto- The guy PLAYED EVERYWHERE.
6. Abe Torchinsky- a long shot to be sure.

I'm leaning towards Harvey, but my heart says Novotny.

While not exactly a showpiece for tuba, every note
Bill Bell plays on 'Seventy-Six Trombones' and
'Marian the Librarian' is pure gold.

Dick Cary's arrangements are terrific.

WOW!!!! I would have sworn it was Harvey considering all the work he was doing at that time. Who knew. That set is on my short list. Yeah, Ray Draper was a long shot.
