There are a few "comical" style tuba solos in the John Williams score to Superman:The Movie. The movie was made in 1978 i believe and it was listed that the London Philharmonic played the soundtrack.

Who was the tuba player? Great sound!

If I remember correctly, John Williams used the London Symphony Orchestra for that gig like he used them for the Star Wars movies.

If that's so, more than likely you heard the wonderful sounds of John Fletcher in those solos for Otis.
