Bruckner 8/ Giulini

Post by SFAtuba »

Just curious to see if anyone knows who is playing tuba on this DVD.

Bruckner - Symphony No. 8 with Carlo Maria Giulini and the World Philharmonic.

Thanks!

Now I wonder why John Flecher would use an EEb for Bruckner 8? That is definitely a contrabass tuba part and did he not have a Holton (and Rudy) CC - curious? :?

Just looked at the YouTube video and appears an old 15" bell Imperial to me.

As John Fletcher played a 981 with straight leadpipe, I rather wonder if it is in fact him? Do I also see a euphonium being played - presumably on Wagner tuba part? What date was this recording? Surely such inappropriate instruments were not still being used in the 1985?
