Re: Cincinnati Symphony
Hi Folks,
A friend directed me to this thread as I am not on here often. Other than myself, I can tell you that over the past probably 4-5 years there have been more than a few different players filling in on the symphonic and pops recordings.
Off the top of my head:
Tony Kniffen
Dave Kirk
Steve Dumaine
Chris Olka
me
I just took a peak at their website recordings page and these are the ones I know I was on:
Shostakovich: Symphony No. 10 and Veljo Tormis: Overture No. 2
Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra
Paavo Jarvi conducting
Released: March 2009
Vintage Cinema
Cincinnati Pops Orchestra
Erich Kunzel conducting
Released: October 2008
Mussorgsky: Pictures at an Exhibition, Night on Bald Mountain, Dawn on the Moscow River
Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra
Paavo Järvi conducting
Released: September 2008
Ravel: Boléro, Borodin: Music from Kismet, Bizet: Suites from Carmen
Cincinnati Pops Orchestra
Erich Kunzel conducting
Released: April 2008
Masters and Commanders
Cincinnati Pops Orchestra
Erich Kunzel conducting
Released: July 2007
I know that Chris Olka did these:
Prokofiev: Symphony No. 5 in B-flat Major and
Lieutenant Kijé Suite
Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra
Paavo Järvi conducting
Released: January 2008
Tchaikovsky: Romeo and Juliet Overture-Fantasy and Symphony No. 6 in B Minor, “Pathétique”
Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra
Paavo Järvi conducting
Released: October 2007
And Tony Kniffen did this one:
Britten: The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra and Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes
Elgar: Enigma Variations
Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra
Paavo Järvi conducting
Released: September 2006
I believe this one was Dave Kirk:
Bartók and Lutoslawski Concertos for Orchestra; Lutoslawski Fanfare for Louisville
Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra
Paavo Järvi conducting
Released: April 2006
And this was Steve Dumaine:
Music of Howard Hanson
Cincinnati Pops Orchestra
Erich Kunzel conducting
Released: September 2005
I'm not positive after the Shostakovich 10 as that was when I moved to Japan for my new gig. I know that there were a few guys in after that in 2008 and that Carson McTeer has been playing a couple 1 year contracts with the group.
They are a world class orchestra and I am very thankful for the playing I did there. Any of their recordings would be great resources and great listening.
Cheers!
Pete

Re: Cincinnati Symphony
I am pretty sure the Bartok and Lutoslawski were split between Kirk and Kniffen.
Bartok is Kirk
Lutoslawski is Kniffen
not sure who did the louisville recording, maybe I should go back and listen to figure it out.
