Wow!!! Who is this guy?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cWz9MrH ... re=related" target="_blank
I love the tuba playing on this clip. One of the best tuba sounds I have heard in years and one of the best examples of the British EEb I have ever heard.
Oh yeah, that Terfel guy isn't so shabby either.

Could it be Andy Cresci of the Bournemouth Symphony? He has a huge sound, but I don't know if his hair is grey (yet).

Re: Wow!!! Who is this guy?
The player is Kevin Morgan and apparently his EEb has been modified by Mike Johnson with rotary 4th valve.
I queried last year!

The way this guy plays, he could be the Tuba Player with ANY orchestra he so chooses.Tubazen wrote:Kevin is the Tuba player of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra

Re: Wow!!! Who is this guy?
He was the predominant voice in the orchestra for quite a bit of the piece. He sounded great, and I'm glad the conductor didn't give him the Hand.

Re: Wow!!! Who is this guy?
How ironic that the tuba wasn't even invented when Thomas Arne composed this music!
Of course, he probably never dreamed of its annual feature in something as grand as the Last Night of the Proms.

Re: Wow!!! Who is this guy?
It's a good Eb sound and at times quite loud, but it's not a particularly broad sound. Here, it's just great but shouldn't we at least listen to him play some Mahler and the Ride before we hire him for the freak jury orchestra??Chuck Jackson wrote:The way this guy plays, he could be the Tuba Player with ANY orchestra he so chooses.Tubazen wrote:Kevin is the Tuba player of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra

Happiness is a warm tuba.

Re: Wow!!! Who is this guy?
I have to agree. I guess I should be more clear. When I was saying that the sound wasn't particularly broad, I meant it would be pretty easy to tell it apart from a large CC or BBb tuba, a lot of orchestra parts in my opinion call for a large CC or BBb sound. This clip is of some great Eb playing no doubt about it, but when it's suggested that from listening to the clip the player could easily get hired by any orchestra I should have more succintly pointed out that many orchestras are going to want a person who plays great mid size CC to BAT category tubas as well, and shouldn't we hear the player playing some of that sort of instrument on some orchestral pieces that call for it before nominating him for the Freak Jury Orchestra?tuben wrote:And who always wants that?fairweathertuba wrote:It's a good Eb sound and at times quite loud, but it's not a particularly broad sound.
