Solti Chicago Tubist- Tchaik 4

Post by Keith Sanders »

Hey Everyone,

I ran across this video on Youtube and have no idea who this is on tuba. If this is really Chicago then I am stumped, because it is not Jacobs or Pokorny... But some really tasty tuba playing nonetheless....

Wow!! He had quite a bit of hair back then!!! And what a monster sound, definitely different than the York, but still a really great sound!! That just shows why he is such a reknowned teacher and player.

Thanks,

Awesome performance.

Is Rex Martin playing on a Rudy Meinl here, I wonder...?

Rudolf Meinl 4/4 CC would be my guess,
has that classic Rudy Bell flare shape.

I have this on DVD and its one of my favorite recordings of this. Did you notice that all 3 players are on straight tenors? YIKES

I think Rex Martin may have also performed on a CBS recording of the same piece with the CSO and Abbado. I'm not positive though. Better audio than youtube.
