Looks like Deck to me.

There are some serious breaths being taken by the low brass.

Do you know why Mehta took it that slow?? BECAUSE HE COULD AND THE LOW BRASS SECTION WAS STILL THE MOST SUSTAINED AND LOUDEST SECTION EVER  This is mind blowing :!:

Here is a better video of the same performance with audio in both speakers
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qx5HL1_h2Fk" target="_blank" target="_blank

This was around the time Deck made the switch to 6/4 tubas. I believe he was playing a Yorkbrunner in this performance.

And on a related note........here is Arnold Jacobs on one of the refurbished Yorks on the same piece with the CSO. Cant really hear him well though.....but the tuba is pretty and he uses a couple interesting fingerings :!:

Holy, the NY with 3 trombones is louder than the CSO one with 4! Big Daddy Harwood!

In the hall, that NY section never sounded brash or 'car-hornish'; always just big, in tune, and thoroughly in control.

Any idea of what bass bone Don Harwood is playing? That wrap doesn't ring any bell for me?

His 2nd trigger was a C slide.

The audio here is 10X better than on the NY one. I like the brass sound as a whole much better compared to NY but can't hear enough of the Jake tones! One of my first recordings that I bought as a youngster was a European orchestra playing that I could not hear the tuba at all on, so for a long time I thought there was no tuba part for Tannhauser.

That's the exact same CSO vid that I linked a while back in this thread, but apparently it was removed from the YouTube user. Todd found another user on YT with the same vid. Great audio and video and it's nice to see Jake with the refurbished York. Kinda hard to hear him most of the time - there are spots where he comes thru but you have to listen for it :!:
