Tuba "solo" at 8:15 or so.

Who is this guy? Sounds pretty good. I like his tuba too, maybe an old Holton or Conn?

No, I just like this recording so I thought we could discuss it. It's good isn't it? I just listened to the 1977 version of Tannhauser before this with A.Jacobs playing tuba, I think Mr. Porkony gets a brighter, different sort of sound than Mr. Jacobs did out of the same equipment. It could be differences in recording equipment just brings the tuba more into focus than what was available back in A.Jacobs time, but to me there is a definite difference.

Pokorny and Jacobs; both fantastic CSO tubaists, but both very different players.
I hear a LOT of "Tommy Johnson" in Pokorny's sound - it's a more compact, penetrating sound with more bite compared to Jacob's buoyant, lightly 'punchy', sweeter sound.
