CSO Pictures 1958

Postby ftempas » Sun Jun 22, 2014 11:21 pm

Going through my LPs I found a recording of CSO playing Pictures with Reiner from 1958. Anybody know who is playing Bydlo and on what? It's a very full sound, more like F tuba, but could that be?

Thanks

On the Reiner "Pictures" recording principal trombone player Robert Lambert played "Bydlo" on a euphonium.

In fact, Reiner hired a euphonium player for the job, but during the rehearsal beforehand, he was unsatisfied with how it sounded. He fired the euphonist, and Lambert played the thing last minute. Excellent recording.
