Toscanini/Philadelphia Orchestra

Post by happyroman »

There are a few RCA recordings available with Toscanini conducting Philadelphia from 1942. One has Mendelssohn Midsummer Night's Dream and Berlioz Romeo & Juliette. The second is Tchaikovsky 6th and Strauss Death & Transfiguration.

Would Philip Donatelli be playing tuba on these recordings?

I'm not sure who is on the recording but Abe Torchinsky joined the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1949 to replace Mr. Donatelli. So the time frame works for it being Donatelli.
